I’m the second child in a family of four and my elder brother’s grades have been either ‘A’ or ‘B’ in class from start of school (primary). My own was a reverse. My grades were always in the ‘F’ and ‘E’ range in class. My parents were so worried and furious with my grades. I managed to scrap with below average grades through my primary school to junior secondary level two (J.S.S.2).

I got promoted to J.S.S.3 through sheer force and a bit of luck. And at this level, I went through a lot of humiliation. I was given lots of “look” that implied something like “you are just not good enough to be in school, drop out fast”!. I enrolled in a lesson to prepare ahead for junior secondary level three examination (Junior W.A.E.C) during the long vacation (holiday). It was at the lesson that the champion in me came alive.

How?. . 

 I liked a girl who was the most brilliant student in the lesson class I where. Anytime a teacher wants to disgrace the class, it was I they will call while she comes first on any teachers mind anytime the class needs a savior. One day, I resolved within me if I want this girl to be my friend, the only wise thing to do is to go and study the book and knowing it till I become the best in class. That way she will find a reason to get along with me. That was my turning point!

 I became obsessed with the subjects of accelerated learning and how to maximize the power of our brain. I wanted to know everything there was to know about how to be smart, intelligent, and ace my exams every time – I’ve been absolutely consumed by this quest.

 I started reading and learning something more! I bought every book on accelerated learning, personal excellence, motivation, memory improvement, photographic memory, exam techniques, speed reading and notes taking that I could get my hands on. I have also interviewed countless teachers, top students and even experts who were kind enough to share their expertise and knowledge.

As a saying goes . . .” You Don’t Know You Are A Champion until The Day You Are Tested!”

One day, our mathematics lesson tutors wrote a question on the board with a price tag to anyone that will solve it. He asked the best student in class (the girl I noted earlier) to come forward to try as the rational thing left to do when it seems no one was able. She came forward but could not solve the question. As God will have things done, the question on the board was the one I solved yesterday night in my private studies. Your guess is as good as mine, I raised up my hand for the first time in J.S.S.3 (I’m sure all angels in heaven will be dancing by then). As soon as the teacher sited my hand, he burst into laughter while the whole class echoed along.

ln no time the whole class including our tutor all laughed. I mean how can a dullard be the only student raising up hands to solve a hard question presented in the class? Is was a paradox!

After that, the teacher asked me to come forward to see the magic I wanted to perform. In the long run, I solved the question. As soon as that was done, the chalk in the teacher’s hand fell through and the students in the class were all in uncontrolled ovation! From that day, I metamorphosed from ‘E’ grades to becoming the best overall S.S.1 student in my school.

Finally, I Aced All The Science Subjects I Took In W.E.A.C With Distinctions!

Not only did I go on to graduate from college with perfect grades. I have coached hundreds of students (undergraduates, postgraduates and professional students) with this secret of studying system with most graduating at the top of their classes and exams with honors. They all excelled, achieving the following:

• W.A.E.C                       –           Distinction Grades in all majors.
• O.N.D/H.N.D              –           Uppers Credits in all majors.
• B.Sc/B.Eng                  –           Second Class Uppers (2.1) in all majors.
• M.Sc/MBA                  –           Distinctions Aggregates in all majors.

All of these achievements are great, but I have a deeper appreciation for the experiences that made them possible. So the real question is what happened?
